Moscow is fairly well served by the likes of expat.ru, but there's no harm in trying a forum here!

I haven't set foot in Moscow for over two years, but I know there are quite a few site members living there. Show your support chaps!

That is something I was thinking over which city to try and work in.
I know both have advantages over one another.
But I might just flip a coin and decide. lol
Moscow I can assume is much like New York city I've been there before for a few days.
But looking at some photographs I've seen some streets in Moscow that seem quite large and spread out.
A welcome change from New York and few other US cities.

I would guess both have good transportation to get around either taking a cab ride or riding the subway.
After reading several other posts here I get the impression that Saint Petersburg is more artsy style and layed back.
Having been to Los Angeles also I can only guess that Saint Petersburg is kind of like it in some regards.

Moscow does have and incredibly efficient and cheap metro system so travelling around the city is fairly quick and easy, once you have located the lines and the address that you want.

There is also a tram system which is old and rickety and cold in winter but fun in summer - a good way to see the city when travelling.

The electrishka commuter train for longer journeys around and outside the city can be crowded and has uncomfortable wooden seats in many carriages

Sightseeing tours by tram 26th Apr '06 10:49 AM

Hah, same in St. Petersburg. Metro can be very *very* crowded here though, sure Moscow was similar when I was there? It's got worse in SPb in the last year and a bit.

Trams really are just for fun - they're rarely a viable option for actually getting somewhere. If one breaks down, or a car accident blocks the tracks somewhere (blame Russia's mad insurance system), the whole line comes to a standstill. Not unusual to see five or six trams all lined up for hours.

Elektrichkas are a great way to see the 'real' Russia And also a cheap way to go sightseeing in summer.

Marshrutkas are fairly quick and convenient (and pretty cheap) but they're listed as the #1 cause of RTA's in St. Pete's and Moscow. Also the drivers can sometimes be reluctant to answer any questions about where they go.

When they do reply, they often just give an unintelligible grunt, or wobble their heads ambiguously. Kind of 'why don't you jump in, pay the fare and find out for yourself?'

Incidentally, (I think) SPb is in the Guiness book of Records as having the biggest tram network in the world - something like 600km. Correct me if I'm wrong, I usually am

Has anyone heard anything good or bad about IPT (International Professional Training) in Moscow headed up by a Tim Newton? Any opinion would be appreciated. Thanks!
