Calling all Canadians!!  9th Jun '08 8:48 PM

I have it reported from an on-site source that all types of Russian visas for Canadian citizens will now take 15 working days to process.

More information is here:- http://www.rusembcanada.mid.ru/

I apolologise for bob12's rather unsportsmanlike and un-British glee (He is from 'the island', after all)...

Good luck, Paul - I was first informed by someone who is in Toronto right now and who thus has an enforced holiday until the end of this month. The new rule came in on June the 1st - but they didn't update their website to inform people until about a week later.... COOL!

Fine, fine.... we'll see how much fun you have when I take you on a tour of the Samara night clubs

Well, the person in admin who handles the visa thingies called me (in the middle of my in-company class ) to tell me to bring my documents on Monday for renewal.... I suppose the only problem will happen in July when I go back to Canada, guess I might be there a bit longer than I expect! Keeping a healthy amount of paranoia on the back-burner, just in case

Is that an invitation? It's a bit of a long bus ride from St-Petersburg though.....

I tell you what - We'll agree to turn up for the offered night club tour extravaganza and them send you some half-a*sed sms message ten minutes before, saying that we can't make it..

Then we'll send you another sms at New Year (this being in error and about 6 months later) when the sms is, in fact, intended for our DOS....Then when the error is pointed out to us we'll say that we didn't come to the original meeting because (quote) "we had been posted to Novosibirsk"

Sorry - but I had to get all that in before bobs12 did......

Seriously - How is your visa being extended? You said a few days ago that you had only 9 days left and now you are talking about travelling in July... How can this be?

Confirmed - you holiday in Canada will now be extended.....

yes, I laughed, although I realize I deserve the ribbing as well

Well, apparently a quick trip to Riga solved everything..... I guess my school has great connections, and wished to keep me enough to deal with it.

Oh, and take the train.... it's a nicer ride

Hi Paul,

I'm glad that you seem to have got yourself sorted out in Riga - But could you be a bit more specific in your information, as it could be useful to others. That's the whole point of this site.

You are a Canadian citizen, I believe. You said that your visa was due to expire around June 17th and that you were told to bring your documents into the school for 'renewal'. So your visa ended? - and you travelled to Riga and 'solved everything'?

1) What sort of visa did you have/do you have now?
2) You got a new visa in Riga? - What sort and for how long?
3) When will you have to leave Russia again?

Cheers!

Steve

So, from what I can tell. Canada has been taking an unreasonably long time processing visas for Russians. I read somewhere that a group of Russian professors had to wait more than a month to get their visas and the Russian government got tired of complaining about the service so they told all consulates to take 3 weeks to process visas for Canadians.

If anyone has information about a country doing it faster, I would like to know. I had a friend call the consulate in Tallinn and they said 2 weeks but I have a feeling maybe my friend didn't ask the right questions and it will be 3 weeks if I go there.

And no

Estonia will kindly do visas for Canadians in 15 business days like everyone else. So I will spend three weeks in the lovely city of Narva with no money and no place to go anyway because the Russian government will have my passport.

Just another reason to hope Harper and all his stupid friends get thrown out on their ass next election.

Random Quote by Mark McGee
"Paul's evangelistic mission was different from the Kingdom Apostles, but in many ways the same. The Kingdom Apostles preached Jesus the Messiah, ready to return to Israel and set up His Messianic Kingdom. From Israel, the Apostles, with Christ on David's Throne, were to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe everything Christ had commanded them. They would do that because all authority in heaven and on earth had been given to Christ. As we all know, that did not happen. It will happen in the future, but it has not yet happened. What has happened is that Christ revealed a Mystery through His Special Apostle Paul."
