 Like sooo far off-topic  19th May '08 8:59 PM

After giving the English teaching thing a whirl, I thought I was OK but not really my cup of tea or any kind wallet filler at 1000$ pm.

So I'm in the Netherlands meanwhile, working on another golf course, as I had done previously for 5 years, here, there and everywhere.

Anyway to get to the point, I'm still learning Russian, but I need a load of language focusing on golf course management. Any idea how, who, where , what is going to help with this???

I'm speaking to the architect for a new course near peterhof that will be up and ready by 2009/10 about a coushty position.

I don't expect a great deal of replies to this (mainly due to the only type of golf people in russia knowing about being the VW) but what the heck. If you happen to see a book in Russian and English about sports turf, amenity horticulture, grass or golf etc as you stroll through dom knigi or such like, don't be shy - just give me a holler

See the response to Caphall's post regarding sport to see how hugely popular it is among those who prefer to slob it out in the classroom ...
$1000 per month? Boy, were you doing something wrong. Per week, yes.
Perhaps the idea of working for only one employer, which also seems to be your next plan, is an indicator here. There are a lot of employers, including yourself. Diversification is a big help.
As far as golf terminology is concerned, I am stumped enough in English, let alone Russian. I go along with Mark Twain on this one: "a good walk, spoiled".

I fear your chances of finding a book even remotely related to golf AND written in both English and Russian must rate among the worst imaginable! I would get the latest version of Lingvo and see if it has the vocab you need. Benedict didn't inspire? What a surprise!

$1000 USD is pretty subsistence-level. Life gets considerably better after $2k, at $4k you can start thinking about playing golf

I didn't have any problems at Benedict really. The course was great, the tutors were great and it was really enjoyable.

And working for them I had no problems, they knew better than to try and muck me about, to their benefit.

The only bad thing was of course, moving to the various locations light years away from my home- which is why I didn't do a great deal of hours. But my classes were generally good and we always had good times - the ALL teenage girl classes were quite wild though - seemed to be more interested in finding out if i had a profile in vkontakte than learning English

A golf course. In St. Petersburg. Has anyone really thought this idea through? I mean, there is such a thing as winter golf (you use an orange ball)... used to see it in Denver often... but here?

Unless of course it's going to be an INDOOR course... Yeah, that must be it because surely NO ONE would spend the money to build something that is usable only two or three months out of the year... right?...

There's already a course on the outskirts of Piter , all be it a sh*tey wee course though. Should be open for play about half the year. The weather conditions are the same as neighboring countries with loads of big golf courses..such as Norway where I worked, so it's no big shakes.

Best of luck!

If you don't have Lingvo, fire some golf-course/turf-specific lingo this way and I'll see if any comes up in the dictionary.
