Note to newcomers re. avatars and the like  3rd Apr '08 1:29 PM

Please don't follow the example set by me and mememe (we are three different people, honest - not just me pretending to be someone else for the sake of having someone to talk to on the lonely ol' VisaRus forums).

If you want to upload a user pic, you should preferably upload something that at least resembles your good self, if only for the sake of politeness to yours truly and other members. Once we know who you are, feel free to change it to anything other than porn or anything similarly questionable (unless it's really good porn and you took the picture yourself).

The fact that I now resemble Dr. Claw's nephew is more to do with the fact that my old pic was too old to represent my face as it appears today (I don't want to be done for false advertising - my gf is peeved enough that I'm ageing visibly on a daily basis). Thus I enlisted the services of a photofit artist to create an image of what I will look like in ten years' time. Thus I can safely keep that avatar for another ten years. Plus it reflects my true nature and my intentions to take over the universe from VisaRus Inc. headquarters here in sunny ShitPee.

Please also continue to provide real first and last names (not initials or nicknames) when signing up. Signing up anonymously is a good way to get yourself a permanent ban from the site. If you really worry about the Feds tracking you down, PM me and ask for a name change. You really shouldn't be airing views on this site that shouldn't be aired in public anyway, lest you get me in trouble for hosting said views.

If you're signing up as a school user, put in your own real name. If you're in China, put in a transliteration of your real name. I've yet to meet a real Chinese person named Fiona Chi. Don't put the name of your school as first and last name - I'll ban you quicker than you can say, "Why?"

In any case, refer to the Terms of Use

And don't teach English with peanut - it's not a proven method for successful learning

I should add that a lot of VR people meet in real life - it's not a bad idea to use your real name in correspondence, lest you become known in real life by your screen name. That would just be sad
