Viewing topic: Petersburg metro fare increased to 17 roubles

Not an April 1st joke the cost of a metro token in SPb has gone up from 14 roubles to 17.

I remember when it was only 5 or 6 roubles just as well I get my wheels this week!

B*ST*RDS!!!... That's a (getting abacus) 21.42857149% increase!!!

(Assuming aged, senile voice) "You young people/oligarchs/city administrators/politicians/FOREIGN ENGLISH TEACHERS - You've got NO respect for us older people...."

Well, we get the blame for so many things - So what's one more....?

Seriously though - this horrendous, outRAGeous 'price hike' (a la Sun-style) could be the straw that breaks the already heavily- bent backs of older people.

I can't imagine (Well, I can - but I don't want to) what it must be like to live in sunny ole St-Pee on less than a hundred dollars a month....

Tut! That's a typical Russian-bashing response from the Sun!

If I hadn't been in the metro when I posted that wonderful news about the impoverished metropoliten finally getting a chance to refill its coffers, I'd have gone into more detail.

I think it's a wonderful thing that the cost of public transport is increasing - it will bolster the cuntry's waning oil industry, not to mention automobile production (might add - I'm going to do my patriotic bit for the Mothership this week by purchasing a horrendously over-priced pile of Mothership engineering).

Also, it will get those dirty poor people out of the metro - you know, the ones that are only ever short of exactly 2 roubles for the fare. Now they'll be short of 5 roubles precisely, and they'll have to go by car instead, leaving the metro free for respectable folks.

And just think - it will also help to fill the empty spaces on the city's streets. There are still a few unused spaces on junctions sometimes - that space could be used by cars.
