Hi again Denise, I generally kick them out before they get a chance to post Nah, only kidding. There aren't huge numbers of female teachers in Russia - maybe 20 to 30% of the teacher population. There is an Aussie lady on the forum, she taught here for a while. Username is 'taikowoman' methinks. She had a blast. She was a blast. This is not the first time the question has been posed, and we could certainly do with a bit of the 'feminine touch' on visarus. I wouldn't be surprised if some girls are a tad reluctant to post on a male-dominated forum anyway. I would feel the same about posting on a female-dominated forum. Hmm... no site members specifically come to mind. Most of all are blokes out in the wilderness. You could send a pm to bereza - she's a DoS in Novosibirsk (and currently has an open vacancy for later in the year) - I'm sure she could shed some light on how many foreign females work at her school. You could try randomly PM-ing blokes in the wilderness and asking if they know any foreign ladies. Doesn't discourage them to the best of my knowledge. I'd say that any system needs a balance. There is no real advantage in having young male teachers at a school except to attract young female students (no kidding). I don't know of any specific discrimination against female teachers - no wage differences as far as I understand, no harder to get a job. Might even be easier ("Blimey, this one's not a bloke! Hired!" If you're looking for the wilderness, I guess you've already found the map in the school directory (still, I think, the only school directory with maps! muahaha, VisaRus roolz) - click around, ask schools if they have foreign teachers, see if they'll put you in touch, stress that you're not a rival school trying to poach. Pay special attention to the visa situation - you might need to go back to Oz for your visa |

At the moment, you're looking at school contracts with work visas. Hard to say - probably averaging around the $1000 mark. Aim for double that. Start with the schools that offer twice as much as the others, and have work visa permission in place or that will have it by the time you need a visa invitation. |
