Your beloved (muhahaha) bobs12 has a fairly urgent vacancy for one or more translators:

Technical translator (Russian to English)

Requirements:

1. Confident working knowledge of Russian (reading, understanding) and excellent grammar, OR native Russian and excellent English.

2. Basic understanding of IT is essential. Extensive knowledge of telecommunications (fixed/mobile networks, protocols) highly advantageous, but training & support in terminology will be provided if necessary.

3. Experience in writing or using IT documentation is advantageous, as is ability to write marketing copy.

4. Translating experience is a must, unless you have very good Russian and appropriate IT/telecoms knowledge.

5. Attention to detail, responsibility and ability to prioritise work are essential.


Duties:

1. Translating technical documentation (fairly complex) and/or marketing materials (less complex) from Russian to English within strict deadlines, occasionally at short notice.


Payment:

Payment starts from 200 rising to 450 roubles per standard page (1800 characters including spaces), depending on quality (accuracy and stylistic correctness of translated text). Payment will increase relative to quality.

Payment is on a piece-rate basis, monthly in cash (if you are in SPb) wire/postal transfer (if you are elsewhere in Russia or CIS) BACS or cheque (if you live in the UK) or carrier pigeon (if you live somewhere else). PayPal *might* be an option, but owuld prefer to avoid it.

This is a part-time freelance job, suitable for working from home. There is no contract of employment - you are hired as a freelance contractor. Payment is cash-in-hand and you are responsible for paying taxes if you want to

The volume of work is not guaranteed, but I estimate it at around 50 to 100 standard pages per month from now until at least August/September. At the top rate (450 roubles) this translates to roughly 900 - 1800 USD per month.

I will send an example text of approx. 2 standard pages for you to translate and return within 24 hours. This will not be paid (it is a standard text for assessing ability). The starting rate will be agreed depending on the quality of the test translation.

Your rate will be reviewed approximately every 100 pages.

The work can be distributed between several translators, so you are not obliged to be available for the entire volume of work.

Translations may occasionally be required at short notice (up to 10 st. pages/day). There is no bonus for urgent translations, but accepting them and completing them on time may help you to get a higher rate

This is not an agency job - it is the job that I was previously doing in the company where I work now - there is no middleman as such. The volume of translation has increased, in part due to my new role, and I simply can't keep up with it.
