Dear Community

I have long wanted to take up a teaching position in St Petersburg and fully intend to do so when I graudate at the end of this academic year.

I taught briefly, well for five months, as a volunteer on the fifth line on Vasilievsky Island but obviously I still have so many questions. Whilst I am not planning on going to Russia till August I am gradually formulating my plan of attack. I will probably go out there as a freelance, so could anyone advise me on getting a 12 month business invitation from waytorussia.net; anyone ordered an invitation from them? Would I be able to earn a legal income on such an visa, i.e. not cash in hand?

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,

A business visa really doesn't let you work here legally (see relevant forum threads, TEFL Guide to Russia plug plug etc. etc.)

No problems doing it as a freelancer.

Never used waytorussia.net, I use a local travel agency here in St. Pete's which has served me well over the last two years and registration with them is about as simple as it gets.

I'm currently doing a special offer - buy 22 copies of the book, get a free visa invite shipped out to you by DHL/Fedex! PM for details

I live just up from Vasileostrovskaya (Primorskaya, the next metro station). You should have no trouble if you've already been here and know your way around. Plenty of schools to choose from, almost all need freelancers, no questions asked, but almost certainly cash in hand.

Only one school immediately springs to mind that might pay you by BACS - that's Language Studio. There may be others, so worth calling round.

Stay in touch,

Robert
