Hey! I just filled out an online app. to LL in St Pete and am due to have a telephone interview some time this week with them. I don't have any experience yet and I got screwed on my 100 hr course so I'm stuck with only a 60 hr certificate. I was thinking starting out here might not be a bad idea.
If anyone has worked there and could maybe share their experiences that would be great. Or if anyone just has some helpful information that would be nice too. I have been trying to do a lot of research myself ( like buying the book advertised at the top of the page) but I am still pretty new to this game.
Thanks A lot

Hi Jason,

I recommend checking Language Link St. Petersburg in the school directory...

I see. That doesn't sound very promising. Is there a school that you might recommend for a newbie like myself. I really just want to get some experience under my belt so I can move on to bigger and better things. Freelancing sounds great but I need somewhere to start.

Hmm... this question is getting more and more difficult to answer!

ALM (American Language Master) takes on beginners and has a training programme, try a pm to jrob9782 - he's working with them and I think is going through their training.

They also have Saturday conversation classes where you can 'get your feet wet'.

Try calling the other schools and see what they can offer, just dont go near the Benedict School - there's a forum thread plus reviews to explain why...

You are right. I have had not had any luck in finding some solid answers to that question. I am relentless though. I sent that guy a message. Hopefully he can help me out.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.

Yep, just be relentless and you'll find something. Too many people (you probably read my thoughts on them in the book!) give up at the first hurdle.

Have you had any success from calling round schools yet?

My headset isn't working properly so I can't use SKYPE. A new one should be arriving in the mail very soon. I think things will turn around for me once I get that going.
BTW. I appreciate the encouragement. There are 2 fellas on another forum telling me to just give up any pursuit and stay home. LOL But I am relentless.
Thanks again.

HAHahahah. It would indeed. I'm just as guilty for edging them on. I should have just let it drop. Its going to be alright.
LL offered me a job of course. I doubt I will be taking such a risk as that. But if for some reason all else fails. I'll go. It can't be worse then fighting in this ignorant thing the US is calling a war on terrorists. My brother will be doing that soon.

Your book is well written and easy to read. I wish I had it in paperback. Is that possible?

 Typing on g-f's mini-computer, so excuse the typos :) 23rd Aug '07 7:26 PM

Oh crap get him out here instead. That is one hell of a worthless cause to go risking life and limb for. Hard to believe it's still going on.

e-s-l-c-a-f-e - haha, I got thrown off there around New Year, reasons as yet unknown. I was a regular contributor up until I got really sick of the I'm-in-Russia-it's-my-territory-so-get-lost attitudes, after which point I only occasionally chipped in to discussions with links to relevant info on VisaRus.

As far as I'm concerned the muppets on e-c can stay there and bitch and moan about everything under the sun I'm quite happy with my quiet-but-friendly forum over here, even if I'm often quite alone in it

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the book! I was pretty nervous about putting it out, and for an e-book the price is a bit steep, but it's all for a good cause and I've had only good feedback so far. Thanks!

Unfortunately the only paperback option at the momet is File -> Print and a lot of paper in the printer

The idea for the book actually came up a couple of years ago and I had a publisher ready to take me on, but didn't like their commissions so shelved the idea and made my own e-book and my own site to sell it on instead

However, the book is doing okay and I'm using the proceeds as promised - building a new version of VisaRus (this happens every two years or so). It may get into print yet in a later edition, but not in the near future I'm afraid

e-s-l-baiting was one of my hobbies when I worked in a software company and had nothing better to do It' fun.

The new version of the site will be available for existing users to test out in the next week or so - any feedback from members would be appreciated. Bits of it will go up in different stages, so anyone interested in testing it out as it develops (guinea pigs) please PM me

The layout will stay much the same as will most of the functions, plus there will finally be some of the stuff I've bee promising for years like CV upload with a feature that will let you mail a link to the school direct from the site and a few other goodies
