 5 days to go!  6th Aug '06 2:04 AM

Hey all, I'm less than a week from going to Vladimir (4 hours east of Moscow) to do the whole ESL thing for a year! I'll be working at a place called the 'American Home.' They've been around for nearly 14 years, hiring mostly recent college grads and hold having people work for 1 or 2 years before they move on (of their own free will). http://www.serendipity-russia.com/engculture.htm

We are required to take an online course from ICAL (http://www.teacher-training.net/), but its not much. I'll probably be visiting here a lot more often while I'm there.

I'm not really sure if I'm prepared, but I'm not too worried about it. If anyone has any 'don't for get this...' kind of advice, that would be great. I mostly just wanted to let everyone here know of the program.

They pay isn't great at all, its more like an internship program not a career move, to see if TESL is for you. its 200 or so a month, free homestay, 3 hours of free russian lessons and classes don't start till 4pm.

Cool deal Merritt.

Welcome to the wonderful world of teaching. I have heard of this school. I have seen their website and it looks to be a very good school from what I have seen.

The pay seems a little low, but that is all I can see that would bother me. About things not to forget, as soon as you asked that question I forgot all the things that I would suggest.

Let us know how it goes and tell everyone about your experiences at the school. There might be a lot more folks out there that will go this route.

Take care.
Will

Keep us all posted Bob! Sounds like fun, and a good way to 'get started'.

Can't think of any unforgettable advice right now, as it's 9am on Sunday morning and I can't think of much at all, but I certainly look forward to hearing more from you!
