Nordic School caught spamming, removed from VisaRus 13th Jul '06 11:35 AM
Apologies to those who received spam from Nordic School, and thanks to those who reported it so quickly.
Nordic School has been going downhill of late and I've removed them from the site to protect general interests of users and to avoid further inconvenience.
The contact details are still in the directory, but I don't recommend them to anyone. If you want to work in Finland, I'll shortly be adding another school that organises camps there. ___________________________________________________ bobs12 is in a huff

And it was herself doing the spamming. The last in a line of stupid things from that school. After I removed them she even had the cheek to say I should be nice to them because the director apologised for the other guy's remarks. Two months late As if he was having trouble sleeping.
That's a funny thing about Russian schools - they think an apology is as good as compensation, and flattery is as good as paying money.
Here's a tip I picked up from a negotiating guidebook, quite handy for Russia. Obvious if you think about it, but most people (me included) wouldn't probably think it up on the spot. I've tried it and it works, here goes:
In negotiation, different people use different tactics to get their way. Fairly typical in Russia is to use flattery to get you to work for less, or take on a really shit job. The pronciple is simple - someone flatters someone else, that person feels obliged to reciprocate.
Quite often the goal of the flatterer is to get someone to forget about a wage rise, or stay in the school when they're talking about leaving.
Here's an example situation:
I ask a school for a wage rise. We negotiate purely in figures, they refuse to go up to my price. I say, 'no, I'm leaving'. The DOS pulls out the flattery card.
"But your students love you, etc. etc. etc." - she expects me either to be so flattered that I'll agree, or to feel guilty about leaving my darling (yeah, right) students.
Okay, so the more my students 'like' me, the less money I should work for? Do I have to make them hate me to earn a decent wage?
To which I reply that I'm very glad she's taken the time to find out what my students think of me, and since she's already done that there should be no need for me to go through a probationary period and since I'm clearly such a top class teacher they ought to be paying me accordingly to make sure I don't go to work for the competition.
This shuts her right up.
Try it, it works.

My first thought 17th Jul '06 2:02 PM
I would have replied. "If they love me that much, they might follow me to another school". And then "Lets ask them"...
I can see what your saying and I agree. I use your idea of reversal. Telling them that they really don't want something, or that they couldn't afford it. What I found was the killer was "Thats ok it you don't want it,,, I do"
I hope I don't hurt anyones feelings, but I found most of the Russian to be like small children in how they think. I would do something or tell them about something that I do in the States on a regular basis. They would look at it as if it were a magic trick. This is why I know a lot of my ideas will work. Watch me pull a rabit out of my hat.

I got a different kind of invitation at the same time...the same flattery.
Mine came via my girlfriend, who gave up my info and got me sucked it.
I did have a good time where I went...and for pocket change pay.
Still...Bob and I had fun.
I leave my comments about that SOMEDAY!
And we should remind Bob that it's a good example of: Don't date Nordic School girls...and be careful of girls in these schools....even from other cities.

WARNING 14th Sep '06 12:52 AM
That sounded like a big time warning. Can't wait to get to St Petes to catch up on the goings on.
I feel so far out of the loop here.

Oh, I'm sure Robert won't do anything we'll regret.
Yeah, come visit us on your way through. Cities like Saint Pete are full of interest and intrigue. (That's also why it's nice to get out of the city.)
